Things to DO

Raton, NM and Trinidad Colorado

Raton is a small town where Melanie and Justin are currently residing, Melanie is a librarian and Justin is an English teacher. Being a small town, there is a limited number of things to do, but there are still quite a few options in the area! If you happen to arrive a few days before the wedding, you can take a trip to Lake Maloya. The lake is a short drive from Raton and is a perfect spot for fishing and kayaking. If hitting the trails is more your style, Raton has plenty of beautiful hiking trails for you to explore. Climax Canyon offers two unique trails with scenic views of the town. Raton is also home to the Raton Regional Aquatic Center, whether you are looking for a fun activity for the family or a place to get a good workout in, you can find it here. In the Historic downtown area, you will find various shops, buildings, and restaurants to check out. Among these are Solano’s Boots and Western Wear (a staple in Raton), the Raton Museum, and the historic Shuler Theater. If you are looking for some good local eats, Park 111 Coffee House, Bruno’s Pizzeria and Gate City Craft Bar are a few town favorites. The Oasis Café and Frito Banditos also come highly recommended.

If you don’t mind driving, Cimarron is a great place for a quick day trip! The small town is about a 40 minute drive from Raton and offers such activities as hiking and sight-seeing in the Cimarron Canyon and visiting the Historic (and supposedly haunted) Saint James Hotel.

Trinidad is also a quick and easy day trip from Raton, about 25 minutes to the North. Trinidad has a plethora of cute shops, cafes and restaurants for your family to enjoy.
